This is a giant vintage scrapbook filled with over 400 Christmas greeting cards. A couple dozen or so are from the 1930's, and majority are from the 1940's and 50's. The cards are pasted to the pages, and although the pages are brittle from age, the cards overall are in very good condition. Each is signed inside. There is a whole array of charming holiday images, a whole history of greeting card styles. The cover of the scrapbook has a worn-off area at the upper right, but the rest is fine, with nice embossed ornamentation. * This is an instant collection of classic Christmas cards.

This large ceramic serving bowl has only handle, making it a more unusual piece for washing the hands and face. It is 9" in diameter, and 5" tall. The transfer pattern features red/orange flowers with green leaves on either side. There was once gold trim on the base and on the rim, but only trace amounts remain. There is crazing overall, but no bad cracks or chips. There are no maker marks, but it is definitely vintage. This bowl was well used, but well taken care of. * Bring this different design to your collection.

In 1991, I accepted a commission from the U.S. Army War College to paint Raise the Colors and Follow Me! It showed General Thomas Francis Meagher and the Irish Brigade charging the Sunken Road at Antietam. For this Irish Brigade picture, I selected a Fredericksburg scene. * * * The Federal army arrived on the north side of the Rappahannock River across from Fredericksburg on November 17, 1862. The men believed there would be no more fighting that year and began building winter quarters on November 29th and since I enjoy painting snow scenes , I knew the picture had to take place sometime after this date. I planned to feature the famous 69th New York but the regiment had no green flag during the battle of Fredericksburg. Tattered and torn from previous fighting, it had been returned to New York to be replaced. Happily, I found that the colors were not retired until December 2nd, so the distinctive and colorful flag would still be present in my painting. I contacted Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr. at Virginia Tech for weather conditions and learned there was a clearing and warning trend that day. The color guard and officers of the 69th arrived at the Brigade headquarters of General Meagher for the official return of the colors. Colonel Robert Nugent points out to General Meagher the spot where the long-awaited pontoons, which arrived on November 26th, have been placed. Other well known members of the 69th are Capt. John H. Donovan (on horseback to the left with the patch over his right eye) and Major James Cavenaugh (the officer on Donovan's immediate left). Capt. Dennis Sullivan is standing at the far right. The man immediately behind him is the Rev. William Corby, who was Chaplain of the 88th NY. * * * The green regimental flag still exists today, as do the ribbons. The tears and bullet holes are based on the actual flag. An interesting note is that it says 1st regiment on the flag and not the 69th because the 69th NY was the first regiment of the Irish Brigade. The white and red headquarters flag shows it to be the flag of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 2nd Corps. according to General Order 102 of the Army of the Potomac of 24th March 1862. The white marker with the gold 69th NYSV also still exists. * * * These tattered remnants of Irish valor, the regimental colors, were returned to New York and replaced in a formal ceremony with new flags. The brigade's carpenters built a large log hall in their winter encampment to hold the festivities which were scheduled for December 13th. General Burnside had other plans. The battle started that day, and the Irish Brigade made the deadly assault on Marye's Heights with green sprigs of boxwood in their hats in place of the missing flags. * Flag expert Howard Michael Madaus was of immeasurable help in my research. So was Ken Powers, the official historian of the 69th Regiment NY. Other historians who helped insure the accuracy of this painting were Frank O'Reilly of Fredericksburg National Military Park, Matt Kelly, Tom Duclose of the NY Military History Museum, Paul fowler, Steven Sylvia, and Rod Gragg. * --Mort Kunstler

This is an image of famed Imperial Japanese Navy fighter ace Saburo Sakai in one of several Mitsubishi A6M2 Type 21 Zeroes he flew early in the War while in the Tainan Fighter Group. Although credited with over 60 aerial victories, Japan S most famous fighter ace Ensign Saburo Sakai, IJN took greatest pride in never losing a wingman. Completing flight training in 1937, he saw combat in China, the Philippines, and the Southwest Pacific. On 7 August 1942, he was wounded by SBD fire and barely made it back to base. He recovered to train other Japanese pilots and to fight again at Iwo Jima and over Tokyo. Here Sakai is depicted in one of the many Mitsubishi Type Zero carrier fighters, it's markings representative of those if the Tainan Kokutai during much of 1942. Sakai flew these aircraft to great success throughout the Pacific war. * This print has never been mounted or framed and is in perfect condition. It is an open edition print that measures 36" x 20 1/4", with an image size of 33" x 16". *

Here is a vintage Captain America comic book and two pictures, all custom framed and matted. The issue is Marvel #378, from 1990, the conclusion of "Streets of Poison." The cover features the fight against the evil Crossbones. The two pictures portray other images of Captain America. Everything is triple matted in patriotic colors, with cool laser cut shields. The comic book is not graded, but it appears to be in near mint condition. Xavier recruited Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast, and Marvel Girl, calling them "X-Men" because they possess special powers due to their possession of the "X-gene," a gene which normal humans lack and which gives mutants their abilities. Early on, however, the "X" in X-Men stood for "extra" power which normal humans lacked. It was also alluded to that mutations occurred as a result of radiation exposure. It is functional as well- put a coin in his hand and press the sprint loaded button, and he will lower his arm, dropping the coin (hopefully) into the slot on the drum. Just like Spider-Man and many other popular super heroes, Batman tends to wear several different masks and have multiple aliases that he likes to go by. This alias is from the Detective Comic featuring Batman, number 681. Batman has been featured in Detective comics since the late 1930's, when his story began in "The Case of the Chemical Syndicate," which was published in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939). Bill Finger (collaborator on the creation of Batman) said, "Batman was originally written in the style of the pulps," and this influence was evident with Batman showing little remorse over killing or maiming criminals. Batman proved a hit character, and he received his own solo title in 1940, while continuing to star in Detective Comics. The comic book is triple matted in white, gray, and black, with Batman's logo located at the bottom. It is in a 14x17" black frame and is in near mint condition. Their condition is good to very good, showing normal age and wear. Their size is 2 7/16 inches, as stamped on the bottom of the box. They come in the original wooden box, which is 8 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 3 inches. It has imprinted instructions on the lid, and paper instructions pasted inside the lid. The box has some spotting, and minor crack on the lid. The text describes the balls as being made from the finest soft Zanzibar elephant tusk ivory.These will be excellent to display in your parlour or billiards room.

Here is a vintage copy of Elton John's groundbreaking album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", set in a custom frame. The cover has Elton in his fantastic period outfit. The album cover has some wear, and has a vintage look. The disc looks great. The frame is excellent. * With the MCA rainbow on the disc above the cover, this is just a perfect framing of a beautiful album.

Here is a vintage Incredible Hulk comic book and two pictures, all custom framed and matted. The issue is Marvel #270, from 1981, with a far-out cover by Sal Buscema. U.S. NAVY WWII BOWSON'S WHISTLE-3 CROWN LOGO * 3 1/2" LONG *

Still in front line service as a major component of our strategic bomber forces, the Boeing B-52 was built before most of its crew members were even born. The first flight of the YB-52 prototype was April 15, 1952 and the production that followed reflected a continued development of the massive bomber. Boeing's B-52 Stratofortress was the core around which the modern Strategic Air Command was developed. The final version was the B-52H, to many "BUFF" pilots a real Cadillac when compared to the earlier models. This L/E print of 650 is sign and numbered by the artist. The Boeing B-29 "Eddie Allen" was far more than just another combat machine thrown into the effort to bring WWII to an end. Named after the famous Boeing test pilot Edmund T. "Eddie" Allen, the aircraft was paid for by donations from the employees of Boeing Wichita and given to the USAAF as a gift. Allen gave his life in the crash of the B-29 prototype, trying to nurse the burning aircraft back to base in order to analyze the source of the problem. The "Eddie Allen" served its country well, flying 24 combat missions before being so badly damaged that it was almost unable to return to its Tinian Island base. The damaged aircraft was never to fly again and its remains were left on the small Pacific Island. * * L/E of 650 and the image size is 21" x 14" and the paper size is 26 3/4" x 20 1/2". Here is an older reproduction of a classic toy fire engine. It is all cast iron, painted red, gold and blue, with black metal wheels, measuring 11" long and 8 1/4" tall. The little boy fireman driver looks quite intent on reaching his destination. Even though one of the wheels is loose, it can stay on when sitting still. The truck is in very good condition overall, with a few light paint nicks. * This is a nice car for your cast iron toy or fire fighting collection.

Although not as sleek as the planes that would soon follow, the Bell XP-59 entered the history books as America's first jet aircraft. Although outclassed in performance by the top propeller driven fighter os the day, the XP-59A was an invaluable tool for the USAAF transition to jet power. This is a L/E of 850 prints and is sign by the artist and personally autographed by America's First Jet Pilot Lt. Gen. Laurence "Bill" Craigie. This is a 3 piece set of ivory carom billiard balls. They are antique, and were made by Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co. Two are white, one with inlaid black dots, and one is red. It has imprinted instructions on the lid. The box has some spotting, and minor crack on the lid. Due to this, the "ghostly" memory of his lost sibling was to haunt him for the rest of his life. Dali took on a unique and conspicuous personality. He felt as though he was forced to live both as himself and his dead brother, which caused him to have a particular obsession with decay and petrification. In 1922 Dali was accepted into a special school for painting, sculpture, and engraving known as the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid. He exhibits his paintings in a student art show at the Dalmau gallery in Barcelona. A year later, Dali was suspended from the academy for criticizing his lecturers and inciting a student rebellion. Fritsche and his crew made 48 successful Hump flights carrying vital fuel supplies for General Claire Chennault's aircraft.
