#111 Lot 115 Theodore Roosevelt
Huge vintage 17.5 x 22.5 bust portrait of Roosevelt, imprinted in the lower left, “No. 2 Copyright 1900 by Geo. Prince,” and noted in pencil below the image, “Prince Foto—Washington, D.C.,” and signed in the lower border in fountain pen, “with regards of Theodore Roosevelt.” Nicely cloth matted and framed to an overall size of 29 x 34.25. In very good condition, with some light feathering and pooling of ink to signature and sentiment, scuff to nose area of image, some light rippling, and uniform light toning to border. This photograph was taken for Roosevelt’s 1900 campaign for vice president. It is inconceivable that that this size photograph was printed for a vice president. Enlarged and printed at the Prince Foto Studio in Washington, D.C., after President McKinley was assassinated and Roosevelt was sworn in as President on September 14, 1901. The largest signed portrait of Roosevelt we have ever seen. Oversized.
