American general (1726–1783) who served during the Revolutionary War and claimed the disputed title of Earl of Stirling. Address panel, 8.25 x 6, addressed in the center in another hand to “Major Quakenbush, D. Q. M. General, Albany,” and signed in the lower left, “Stirling.” Intersecting folds, scattered toning and soiling, and red wax seal remnants to horizontal edges, otherwise fine condition.
