#158 Lot 166 Winston Churchill
TLS signed “Winston S. Churchill,” one page, 7 x 9, personal letterhead, November 9, 1960. Letter marked at the top, “Private,” reads, in full: “Gentlemen, I am indeed obliged to you for your thought in sending me the beautifully produced copy of SHIELD AND CREST, and for the words with which you have inscribed it. Please accept my warm thanks.” Matted and framed, with a portrait of Churchill, to an overall size of 19.25 x 14. Central horizontal and vertical fold, mild toning to edges, and light overall rippling, otherwise fine condition. Shield and Crest: An Account of the Art and Science of Heraldry was written by Julian Franklyn and illustrated by Norman Manwaring.
