Physicist (1797–1878) who conducted experiments in the field of electromagnetism and served as the first secretary of the Smithsonian Institute. ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 5.25 x 8.25, April 23, 1873. Written from the Smithsonian Institute, to “J. P. Morgan and others Committee of Arrangements.” In part: “I am making preparations to spend a week or more in the inspection of oils and lighting material at the Light House Depot on Staten island…and to avail myself of your polite invitation of the Chamber of Commerce.” In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold and a few light creases.
