#256 Lot 269 Auguste Lumiere
Inventor of photographic equipment, along with his brother, Louis Jean. In 1893 they developed a cine camera, the cinématographe, and showed the first motion pictures using film projection in 1895. They also invented the Autochrome screen plate for colour photography in 1903. TLS in French, signed “Lumiere,” one page, 8.25 x 10.5, Laboratoires Lumiere letterhead, February 7, 1944. Letter to Dr. Gerard de Lacaze Duthiers. In part (translated): “I received the issue of ‘Passe Partout’… with your very nice article on the work of my late collaborator Dr. Paul Vigne…I won’t fail to send you my new work on Tuberculosis as soon as it appears.” Central horizontal and vertical fold, a few trivial ink marks, and some light wrinkling and creasing, otherwise fine condition.
