#306 Lot 324 Texas: James Clinton Neill
Soldier and politician (1790–1845) most noted for his role in the Texas Revolution and the early defense of the Alamo. Scarce manuscript DS, signed “J. C. Neill,” one page both sides, 6.25 x 3.5, May 25, 1844. Treasury warrant issued to Neill for $60.00 “for Indian purposes this amount being for Indian Commission Pay.” Endorsed on the reverse by Samuel B. Shaw directing payment to Neill, and signed vertically on the reverse “J. C. Neill.” Light contrast to signature over text, some scattered light toning, missing top right corner tip, and light show-through from writing on reverse, otherwise fine condition.
