#310 Lot 330 Booker T. Washington
LS, one page, 8 x 10, Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute for the Training of Colored Young Men and Women letterhead, October 5, 1905. Washington politely requests funds for the institute, in full: “Our students pay their board partly in work and partly in cash, but they are wholly unable in addition to pay the cost of teaching which is Fifty Dollars per year for each one. If you can help us in any measure, however small, to meet the cost of tuition we shall be very grateful. Our endowment is not sufficient to enable us to run the institution without asking help. The enclosed printed matter will give you some definite information as to our condition and needs.” Matted and framed, with a small photo of Washington, to an overall size of 13.25 x 20. Intersecting folds, one passing through the “o” of the first name, and the “t” of the last name, light surface wrinkling, and uniform toning, otherwise fine condition.
