#335 Lot 357 Charles Victor Leclerc
French Army general (1772–1802) and husband to Pauline Bonaparte, sister to Napoleon Bonaparte. Endorsement signed “Leclerc,” at the bottom of a one-page manuscript document, in French, 10 x 14.5, dated December 25, 1798. Untranslated document reviews the military career of Captain Jean-Claude Desmarais, and asks that he be placed in a company of veterans. Endorsed at the bottom in an unknown hand (translated): “Seen by me, War Commissioner,” and signed “Leclerc.” Document is also endorsed by Marshal Jean Serurier, one of Napoleon’s marshals, and countersigned by four other officers. Central horizontal and vertical fold, scattered toning, creasing, chips, and wrinkling to edges, and pencil notations to top, otherwise very good condition. The document’s red wax General de Division seal is mostly intact. Leclerc is rare in any form.
