DS, one page, 11.5 x 16.75, no date. Honor Guard Certificate for Pfc. John E. Steece, certifying that he “was a member of the Honor Guard to Douglas MacArthur, General of the Army, during the period 23 June 1946 to 28 May 1947. The General Order establishing the Honor Guard to the Commander in Chief stipulates that members of the Company must have outstanding physique, must be persons of high intelligence with exceptional moral standards and perfect service records. His membership in the Honor Guard for the period set forth above attest his high qualities and unblemished record as a soldier and as a member of the United States Army forces in the Occupation of Japan.” Light toning with a few heavier blocks, and light rippling and creasing, otherwise fine condition. Yellow seal is intact. The primary roles of the Honor Guard include providing funeral honors for fallen soldiers, guarding national monuments, and serving as “guardians of the colors” in state events.
