#416 Lot 443 Douglas ‘Wrong Way’ Corrigan
American pilot (1907–1995) best remembered for a 1938 navigational “error” (now widely believed to have been a purposeful protest against government red tape) that landed him in Dublin instead of his stated destination of California. Vintage glossy 4 x 3.25 photo of Corrigan waving from the cockpit of his plane, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Charles Savoy, ‘Wrong Way’ Douglas Corrigan.” Reverse bears a brief initialed ALS on the back: “Hi Charles, This photo was taken at Lindbergh field in Sept. 1938 while on a tour of US cities in my Robin NX 9243, D. C.” In fine condition, with light surface impressions from writing on reverse.
