#496 Lot 523 Skylab 3

Printed commemorative poem entitled ‘Brothers in the Eternal Cold’ by Archibald MacLeish, one page, 8 x 11. Poem written to commemorate man’s first trip to the moon concludes: “To see the earth as it truly is, small and blue and beautiful in that eternal silence where it floats, is to see ourselves as riders on the earth together, brothers on that bright loveliness in the eternal cold—brothers who know now they are truly brothers.” Signed in the border in black felt tip by Alan Bean and in blue ballpoint by Owen Garriott. Page also bears a First Day Issue of the Apollo 8 stamp, postmarked Houston, Texas, May 5, 1969. In fine condition, with some light edge toning and a small pencil notation to bottom edge.
