#637 Lot 665 George Bernard Shaw

Hand-addressed printed postcard, 4.5 x 3.5, addressed by Shaw to “The Hon Secretary, 38 Stockwell Park Crescent, S.W. 9,” and postmarked London, February 26, 1930. A printed statement on the reverse reads: "Mr. Bernard Shaw, who is not and never has been a professional lecturer, is now obliged to restrict his appearances as a public speaker to special and exceptional occasions, mostly of a political kind. He therefore begs secretaries of societies to strike his name from their lists of available speakers. Mr. Shaw does not open exhibitions or bazaars, take the chair, speak at public dinners, give his name as vice-president or patron, nor do any ceremonial public work; and he begs his correspondents to excuse him accordingly.” In fine condition, with a bit of scattered light soiling.
