#644 Lot 672 Harriet Beecher Stowe

AQS on an off-white 4 x 3.25 lightly-lined slip. Stowe writes, “A Direction Sure to produce Happiness, Here & Forever. Trust in the Lord, And do Good. With best wishes of your unknown friend, Harriet Beecher Stowe, March 5, 1888.” Slip is affixed to an identical size slip, which is in turn affixed to an off-white 8.5 x 11 sheet, with a clipped photo of Stowe’s house, a newspaper clipping, and an old catalog description. Also accompanied by a hardcover first illustrated edition of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. In very good condition, with uniform toning to slip, as well as a bit of light soiling. Book rates good to very good, with a bookplate of noted autograph collector Nathaniel Edward Stein affixed to front pastedown, scattered toning and dampstaining to inside pages, scattered wear to covers and spine, and creasing to joints, with front joint repaired.
