^#728 ^Lot 761 John Philip Sousa

Vintage 3.5 x 5.5 three-quarter length postcard portrait photo of Sousa in his band uniform, signed vertically in fountain pen, “John Philip Sousa, 1905,” and adding three bars of music from ‘The Diplomat’ above his signature. Collector’s notation on reverse reads, “19/2/05 This autograph was written for me by John Phillip [sic] Sousa while he & his band were at Town Hall.” In fine condition, with a hint of light silvering and an impression from postmark on reverse. Well-preserved example with the desirable combination of signed photo and musical quote.
