#731 Lot 765 Sergei Rachmaninoff
Collection of four letters: TLS, in Russian, signed “S. Rachmaninoff,” one page, 6.5 x 10.5, Villa Lenar letterhead, August 1, 1934. An untranslated letter to composer-pianist Myron Jacobson, noting that he has ordered a violin interpretation of a work of Mozart; two one-page untranslated TLSs, in Russian, signed by Rachmaninoff’s secretary Evgeni Somoff, one on Rachmaninoff’s personal letterhead, dated December 2 and 27, 1933. Both letters concern various recordings by Rachmaninoff for Victrola including Beethoven’s 32 Variations and DeBussy’s Gradus ad Parnassum; and an ALS, signed Natalie Rachmaninoff, one page, 6 x 9.5, Hotel McCurdy letterhead, dated November 16, 1934. Letter to Berthe Jacobson, wife of Myron Jacobson, reads, in part: “Mr. Rachmaninoff, however, is so busy with his music that I regret it will not be possible to take lunch with you.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Accompanied by an unsigned vintage glossy 5.5 x 3.25 photo of the Rachmaninoffs and Jacobsons. In fine condition, with scattered light creasing and toning.
