#1183 Lot 1222 Paul Newman

DS signed “P. L. Newman,” one page, 8.5 x 11, April 23, 1999. Historic Sportscar Racing, LTD Tech Medical Form, filled out entirely in Newman’s hand, including his address, emergency contact, and medical information. Accompanied by a Road Atlanta Medical Staff duck-shaped embroidered yellow and red patch. In very good condition, with three horizontal folds, scattered surface creasing, toning along the edges, and an ink notation. Filled out during the Walter Mitty Challenge at Road Atlanta in April of 1999, Newman made a habit of entering events under the name “P. L. Newman” in hopes that he wouldn’t be recognized, a strategy that rarely worked. A frequent competitor in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America), these items come from a medical volunteer whose main station was the Road Atlanta track medical facility, nicknamed the ‘Quack Shack.’ These unique items speak of Newman’s passion for racing, an outlet he called “the best way I know to get away from the Rubbish of Hollywood.”
