^#1266 ^Lot 1305 Wizard of Oz: Charley Grapewin

Character actor (1869–1956) who played Uncle Henry in The Wizard of Oz. Vintage pearl-finish 7.5 x 9.75 photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “Sincerely yours, Charley Grapewin, 9/25/15.” Vertical creasing from previous mounting, a horizontal surface mark running through Grapewin’s forehead, light toning and rubbing, clipped corners, an adhesive remnant to the right edge, and mounting remnants to the reverse, otherwise very good condition. When this photo was signed, Grapewin was a struggling vaudevillian stage actor; it would be nearly another quarter century before he would get his biggest break, at age 60, in The Wizard of Oz. A superb addition to any Oz collection.
