#1409 Lot 1460 Ban Johnson

Baseball executive (1864–1931) who served as the founder and first president of the American League. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937. TLS signed “B. B. Johnson,” one page, 8.5 x 11, American league letterhead, July 19, 1915. Letter to T. L. Huston, secretary of the New York Baseball Club. In full: “I enclose you one of the agreements for the purchase of Daniel Tipple. This day I have mailed to Commission headquarters your check of Forty-five Hundred ($4500.) Dollars together with the agreement. After the document has been approved, Secretary Bruce will mail check to Mr. McGill.” In very good condition, with horizontal fold through signature, uniform toning, a bit heavier to left edge, and a small tack hole to top left. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence.
