#1641 Lot 1699 Ulysses Doubleday

Union general (1824–1893). During the war he served as major of the 4th New York Heavy Artillery, was aide-de-camp to his brother General Abner Doubleday, served as lieutenant colonel, 3rd US Colored Troops and colonel, 45th US Colored Troops. Elusive wet plate, albumen 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo, crisply signed in ink on the reverse, “U. Doubleday, Maj. 4th N.Y. Arty., Fort Ethan Allen, Va., April 25/63.” Bust view in uniform.
