#1687 Lot 1747 David M. Gregg
Union general (1833–1916). During Stoneman's 1863 Richmond Raid, Gregg commanded a division. The following month he was covering the extreme right of the Union line at Gettysburg, when he fought a sharp cavalry battle against J.E.B. Crisp and clear wet plate, albumen 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo. Superb quality half-view in uniform with rank of brigadier general. Backmark: E. & H.T. Anthony, New York, made from a photographic negative from Brady's National Portrait Gallery. In fine condition, with light rippling.
