Union general (1836–1881). He had the distinction of being the first Regular officer to be wounded in action during the Civil War, this coming in June 1861, at the battle of Big Bethel, Virginia. Wet plate, albumen 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo. Full standing view in uniform with rank of brigadier general. A single star, denoting rank of brigadier general, is clearly visible on the front of his kepi. Backmark: E. & H.T. Anthony, New York, made from a photographic negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery. In fine condition, with light rippling.
