#1790 Lot 1850 Winfield Scott

Mexican War and Union commander (1786–1866) nicknamed ‘Old Fuss and Feathers’ for his love of military pageantry. War-dated LS, one page, 5 x 8, embossed letterhead, October 30, 1861. Written to Assistant Secretary of War Thomas A. Scott, in full: “Permit me to introduce to you Mr. Legcurgus Edgerton, a gentleman of excellent business habits, residing in Paris,” with Scott adding, “& worthy of esteem & confidence.” Light creasing and toning, and a pencil notation to the top edge, otherwise fine condition.
