#1865 Lot 1925 Alexander S. Webb
Union general and Medal of Honor recipient (1835–1911). During the Antietam campaign, Webb was chief of staff of General Fitz John Porter's 5th Corps. Just prior to the battle of Gettysburg, he was promoted to brigadier general, and took command of the 2nd Brigade, Gibbon's Division, of Hancock's 2nd Corps. Desirable wet plate, albumen 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo. Superb quality seated view in uniform, with rank of brigadier general. Backmark: E. & H.T. Anthony, New York, made from a photographic negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery. In fine condition, with light rippling.
