#1921 Lot 1982 Nathan Bedford Forrest
Confederate general (1821–1877) who earned a reputation as the greatest cavalry officer of the Civil War. A subject of controversy even in his own lifetime, Forrest’s military legacy remains permanently clouded by his prewar career as a millionaire slave trader and, later, his role as first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Original unsigned carte-de-visite of Forrest in his uniform jacket, 2.25 x 4, by E. & H. Anthony of New York, and so marked on the reverse. Some scattered light spotting and foxing to background, otherwise fine condition.
