#2001 Lot 2062 ‘US’ Marked Colt 2nd Model Dragoon Revolver
#9732, caliber .44 with a 7.5” part round/part octagonal barrel with a fair bore. The barrel has the marking “- ADDRESS SAM = COLT NEW YORK CITY” and the left side of the frame is marked “COLT’S / PATENT / U.S.“ All numbers match, including on the wedge. The steel surfaces have been cleaned in the past and now have a smooth dark gray patina. There is no cylinder scene remaining. The barrel lug has a small surface crack at the very rear that looks like an original forging defect. The brass gripstraps have an ocher patina and the one-piece walnut grip shows wear with an old refinish. This big Colt was made in 1851 and was one of only 2700 made. Because this total included revolvers for civilian sales, U.S. military issue Second Model Dragoons are very uncommon.
