Lot 131 J.E. McCann Missouri Plains Percussion Rifle

The top barrel flat is marked "J.E. McCann" who has been identified as a Neosho, Missouri, gunsmith circa 1879 in Frank Sellers' book AMERICAN GUNSMITHS. The hammer and lock plate feature a light engraving. Fixed sights with a filled rear dovetail slot, brass trigger guard, and double set triggers. Mounted with a smooth half stock with pewter end cap, raised cheekpiece on both sides of the buttstock with a silver overlay, brass crescent buttplate, and silver overlay on the underside of the forearm.

Condition: Good. The rifle has a mottled brown patina with some minor pitting. The brass has a smooth dark patina and the silver is fine. The refinished stock is very good with some chipping, a few hairline cracks, a filled repair around the lock, and a few minor handling marks.
