Lot 132 Large Bore Turner Marked Percussion Shotgun
This is an example of a mid-19th Century percussion fowling or "market" gun. The Damascus barrel has a muzzle with a nearly 1 inch opening. The "TURNER" marked lock plate is border engraved with scrollwork at the rear and a hunting dog chasing two game birds. The hammer, barrel tang, buttplate tang, and trigger guard are scroll engraved. The nicely figured half stock features a checkered wrist, a flat buttplate and a single barrel wedge. A brass tipped wooden ramrod is included.

Condition: Good. Overall the shotgun has a smooth brown patina with traces of the Damascus pattern remaining on the barrel. There is minor pitting (mostly on the barrel). The sanded and re-oiled stock is also good, showing some scattered minor handling marks and recut checkering. Mechanically fine.
