Lot 1024 Special Order Deluxe Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Single Shot Rifle
Manufactured circa 1894. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.-" and "32-40" at the breech. The serial number is marked on the lower tang with the patent date marking directly behind the trigger. The rifle features a 32 inch part octagon barrel with a blade front and later replacement semi-buck horn rear sights. There is a factory installed sling swivel eye mounted on the underside. Single set trigger, casehardened receiver and lever, and mounted with a deluxe, nicely figured checkered walnut Schnabel tip forearm and pistol grip stock with a Swiss type steel buttplate with period modified toe prong and sling swivel eye.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 75% plus original blue finish with some thinning and some scattered light spotting. The receiver retains 40% original case colors with the balance having silvered out, with some minor spotting. The lever has a smooth mottled silver-gray patina with strong original case colors in protected areas. The buttplate has a smooth mottled brownish patina. The wood is also very fine with most of the original varnish, some scattered minor dings and scratches, a few minor chips at the wrist, and crisp checkering. The markings are crisp. The action is excellent.
