Lot 1314 Smith & Wesson New Model Number 3 38-44 Target Revolver with Factory Letter
Manufactured as Smith & Wesson's first production target revolver, the S&W Number Three Targets were the premier 19th century target handgun which were originally designed for world famous target shooter, Ira Paine. Accompanied by a factory letter which verifies all features. Fitted with 6.5-inch barrel and chambered for the .38-44 S&W cartridge. The revolver is nickel plated with casehardened hammer and trigger guard. The pistol has a square blade pinned front sight. The rear sight is adjustable and is mounted on the barrel catch. The barrel rib is marked in one line "+SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A+". The serial number "2094" is located on the butt, rear face of the cylinder and the barrel catch, and barrel. Grips are black checkered hard rubber with the S&W monogram at the top.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel assembly retains 98% original nickel plating with minor hints of thinning along high points. All markings are sharp, crisp, and clear. The frame retains 90% plus original nickel plated finish showing some thinning concentrated along the grip strap. The hammer and trigger guard retain half of the original case colors. The grips are excellent.
