Lot 1367 Documented U.S. Navy Remington-Lee Model 1885 Bolt Action Rifle
This is an example of a Navy Lt. W.W. Kimball inspected Model 1885 Rifle. The 1879 patent date is marked on the left receiver wall and the two line Remington address/sole manufacturers and agents marking followed by the factory serial number (50523) is marked on the left receiver rail. The receiver ring is marked "U.S.N./[anchor]/No. 1176/W.W.K." The rifle is correctly without a bayonet stud and has a buckhorn sight found on Navy numbered rifles from 1,001 to 2,540. An unidentified sub-inspector star H stamp is found on the barrel and receiver as observed on Navy serial number range 1,006 and 2,912 rifles. "U" marked barrel bands and mounted on a smooth straight grip stock. Included is a copy of a Navy memo listing dated Remington-Lee Rifle purchases with this rifle part of an 1888 order.

Condition: Fair. The rifle has a mottled brown patina with heavy amounts of faded blue finish on the bolt assembly and magazine. The refinished stock is good with a repaired wrist and some very scattered minor pressure dents. Mechanically fine.
