Lot 3295 Extraordinary Stoneware I.N. Stout Ripley, Illinois Attributed Jar

Brown glazed stoneware construction, 6 1/2 inches tall at the lip and 9 1/2 inches wide (7 1/2 inch internal diameter), decorated with a pair of molded handles on the sides and an alternating series of large 5 pointed stars and faces ringed with smaller stars. The lid shows a matching glaze, with star patterns, stripes and dots, and is topped with a small three dimensional bird which doubles as a handle.

Condition: Very fine, with some mild wear overall. The lid has been separated and glued back together during the period of usage. An extremely rare piece of 19th century American stoneware.
