Lot 3341 Early Anna Pottery Sow Flask

This is a nice example of an early Sow Stoneware pig flask with incised eyes and large snout, and inscribed on the side "Good Old Rye/in a hogs ---" pointing to the rear of the pig which has the spout, (with cork). Many pig flasks that resemble this early form are not marked, which is the case with this particular example, and are made in the form of a boar, whereas this example is a sow. This pig provides the benchmark in validating the unmarked versions of early Anna Pottery pig flasks. H 3 inches, L 7 1/4 inches and W 2 1/2 inches.
