Lot 3368 Scarce Alexis Pottery Company 4 Gallon Advertising Crock
Circa late 1800s 4 gallon ceramic crock manufactured by the Alexis Pottery Company which was in business for a short time before being destroyed by fire in the year 1900. this crock has a glossy glaze and is marked on one side in cobalt blue "ALEXIS POTTERY CO." in an arch over "4/ALEXIS, ILL." The opposite side is advertising marked in cobalt blue "H. G. MARQUARDT./BURLINGTON, IOWA./DEALER IN/STAPLES & FANCY/GROCERIES." inside a decorative oval border. Measures 12 inches high and is approximately 11 inches in diameter.

Condition: Excellent with two small chips on the bottom edge, one of which has caused a hairline 2 inch exterior crack which does not go through the inside. Good color to the blue printing.
