Lot 3640 Excellent Engraved Pre-WWII A. Francotte Double Barrel Box Lock 20 Gauge Shotgun
Manufactured in Belgium. The top of the right barrel is marked "VON LENGERKE & DETMOLD" and the top of the left barrel is marked "U.S. AGENTS NEW-YORK". Single brass bead sight on a solid matte rib, with fine scroll engraving on the breech end divided from the matte by a gold inlaid band. 2 5/8 inch chambers, chokes gauge at full/modified, with ejectors. Double triggers and tang mounted automatic safety with a gold inlaid "S". The casehardened box lock action features a fine scroll engraving with an leaf pattern on the fences. Both sides of the receiver are marked "A. FRANCOTTE MAKER & PATENTEE/LIEGE BELGIUM". The scrollwork extends to the forearm hardware, trigger guard/lower tang, safety, and break lever. Mounted with a nicely figured multi-point checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with scallop bordered, checkered flats and a black serrated buttplate. Length of pull is 13 7/8 inches.

Condition: Refurbished. The barrels retain 99% blue refinish, which is beginning to thin in areas giving way to a plum patina. The trigger guard retains 98% blue finish. The action retains 25% original case colors, mainly in the protected areas, with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The wood is also excellent as freshened with only a few overall scattered minor dings and handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear. Mechanically excellent.
