Signed bronze and ivory art deco sculpture "Semiramus" by artist Chiparus. Semiramus was the Queen of the Assyrians and was the subject an 18th century play by Voltaire. Voltaire's play inspired many theatrical and operatic productions and the two best known were popular in Paris during the time Chiparus was designing his bronze and ivory figures. Base signed , carved ivory beautiful painted patina bronze, sits on a marble/onyx base. Approx size: 27.5"x21".
