British actor (1893–1943) best remembered for his roles in such classics as Pygmalion, The Petrified Forest, and as Ashley Wilkes in Gone With the Wind. During World War II he devoted his energies to the war effort and was killed in 1943 when the plane he was on was shot down by German fighters over the Bay of Biscay. Vintage sepia matte-finish 5 x 7 photo of Howard in an overcoat and Fedora, signed in fountain pen. In fine condition, with some light toning and spotting to corner tips from previous mounting remnants.
