Lot 1470 Ty Cobb

ALS twice signed, “Ty Cobb,” and “Ty,” two pages, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, March 27, 1939. Cobb writes from Menlo Park, California, to “Neal,” in part: “First I want to make an apology for my apparent neglect which happens not to be intentional. First I have been away to Brawley Calif, Palm Springs and Los Angeles and came back with a fine Sinus infection and only last few days have I felt like attending some of the accumulated correspondence and of course find two letters from you, so hope I am forgiven for I feel it an honor when a boy like you thinks enough of me to want my autograph so am always very happy to comply. I am sending autograph on a picture I know you sent, but I have another one that I can't place and am wondering if you [have] two and if so let me know and describe same and will sign it also. You might be surprised at the number of pictures and letters we receive, hence sometimes a mixup," adding the post script, "I imagine a boy as young as you, with the love of baseball so pronounced, if he is a fine and good boy and takes care of himself, he is sure to be a ball player someday and I hope you every success.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one passing through a single letter of the first signature, scattered toning and foxing, and mounting remnants on the reverse of both pages.
