Port Sheldon, Ottawa County, Michigan, 18xx (ca.1830-40), Proof Stock certificate, Very early locomotive top left with paddlewheel steamship on right sitting allegorical women with sword and shield top center, VF-XF center, Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. In 1835, a group of Eastern leaders formed the Port Sheldon Land Company. This company bought six hundred acres of land for $900.00 to build a city. They spent a fortune laying out and building a boom city near Pigeon Creek. The first post office opened in 1838. Port Sheldon Township is a civil township of Ottawa County in the U.S. state of Michigan.
