Louisville, Kentucky, 1858, 100 Shares, Issued and Uncancelled Stock, #168, Black on black border and underprint, Three reclined allegorical women top center, modes of transportation on right and various fruits on left with a portrait possibly of Norvin Green, VF condition with folds and paper discoloration, Toppan Carpenter & Co., Green was future president of Western Union. During the Civil War, Norvin was superintendent of the South Western Telegraph Company. The government asked him to discontinue doing business with the Confederacy and to allow a temporary managing superintendent to be placed in charge by General McClellan. Rare, attractive and one of the first telegraph certificates.
