In this letter which is full of diplomatic grandeur, King Philip refers to his cousin the Marquis de Aqullar, the fact that he has been chosen as the King’s agent “in this great matter.", which could refer to several things including his attempted settlement of a Catholic suitor for Queen Elizabeth I
