^Lot 20 1738: Scarce example of dated Youghal delft

An extremely scarce Youghal delft plate. Decorated with the initials of a person "M.H" and the year 1738 within three concentric circles. Evidence suggests that Youghal produced delft from 1738 to 1751. This early example is one of very few known bearing a date. Many early trials were made for local families and this is most probably the case with this particular example. Its design corresponds with two other known plates which which were produced for Quakers, hence the simplicity of the design.
