Lot 109 1894: 5th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles silver napkin ring

Hallmarked silver. An attractive silver napkin ring, hallmarked Sheffield 1894, and engraved with the crest of the 5th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles and "E. J. K. Cordner" underneath. Also with a silk handkerchief embroidered with a crest of the Royal Irish Rifles and an Irish Rifles cap badge of modern production. (3 items)Edward James Kennedy Cordner was born on the Isle of Wight, the son of a Major General in the Bengal Artillery. He served with the 5th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles reaching the rank of Captain and also worked as Assistant District Commissioner in Nigeria until 1907. On retirement he returned to his place of birth where he died in December 1937.
