Lot 278 1917 (19 April) Irish Assembly Mansion House Conference ticket

Small green ticket numbered 52 issued for admittance to the 'Irish Assembly' at the Mansion House Dublin on 19 April 1917.After Count Plunkett's victory in the North Roscommon by-election, the Count (father of the executed Joseph Mary Plunkett) decided he had a mandate to take over leadership of the independence struggle, and convened a conference in the Mansion House to discuss his plans. Sinn Fein took a different view, and the conference was packed with its supporters and ended without making any significant decisions (see TP Coogan, Michael Collins p. 66). A scarce item.
