CHAGHATAYID KHANS: Tuqa Timur, 1272-1291, AR dirham (1.89g), Khotan, ND, A-1985T, Nyamaa, p.80 (this piece), above-average strike, Very Fine, RR, Zeno-6523. Tibetan MA ("mother") in obverse center, surrounded by two undeciphered Arabic marginal texts / al-urdu al-a'zam + city name. Dating is very tentative, but may be related to the arrival of Marco Polo at Khotan in 1274. Khotan is now a small city in the Chinese province of Xinjiang, with a population of 114,000 in 2006.
