Remington-Keene Magazine bolt-action Frontier Model rifle made for the U.S. Department of the Interior for arming the Indian Police, .45-70 cal., 24” barrel, full magazine, blue finish, wood stock with sling swivels,military inspected on barrel and receiver and marked “U.S.I.D. 203 on left side of receiver. This gun is in overall very good + condition showing approx. 25% original blue confined primarily in protected areas withbalance gone to a brown patina; very good bore, crisp action, sharp markings including “HN” inspector marks on left side of barrel and frame at breech area with “P” proof, W.W.K. inspector’s mark and arrow mark on top of receiver; the wood stock is overall very good with a clear inspector’s cartouche on the left side of the wrist; the left rear side of the receiver shows an old number scratched into the finish that may be aprevious owner’s license number. It is estimated that only about 600-800 of these Frontier Models were manufactured between 1880 and 1881. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
