Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle, .45-70 cal., in fine to excellent original condition, serial #462391. The rifle shows a fully defined cartouche on left side of stock dated 1889 with sharp P inspectionproof directly behind the trigger guard, with a small D inspectors mark above it. The rifle retains 96-98% original blue, thinning just slightly and aging a slight amount. The breech block shows 75-85% case hardening;the stock is fine to excellent with a couple of small handling marks, a couple of bumps on the edges of the ramrod channel, but fine to near excellent overall. The butt plate shows 50-60% darkened original finish; theaction is crisp, the bore excellent. A strong 9.6 to 9.7 on 1 to 10 scale. Est.: $1,400-$2,800
