English Flintlock pistol with top mounted spring bayonet, signed "Jos'h Richards", circa 1810-1830. The pistol measures 10-1/2" overall with 5-1/2" barrel group, approximately .65 cal. smooth bore withmedium weight steel barrel. The metal surfaces show a brown patina finish with some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The stocks are good with fairly crisp checkering, minor mars opening around key,pin holes and just normal aging. The lock shows its correct small parts; the spring on the bayonet is weak and the bayonet is original to this pistol. A massive pocket gun for self defense that would put off mosthighwaymen.
