Lot 793 Italian Schiavona basket hilt sword with forged iron guard, armorer's marked blade, brass pommel,

Italian Schiavona basket hilt sword with forged iron guard, armorer's marked blade, brass pommel, circa 1660-1725. The sword measures 43" overall with 37" blade that measures approximately 1" wide at the hiltand tapers to its end, and appears to be its original length with tip just reduced minutely. The guard is nicely formed and forged, well made; the blade has a good temper, the wire wrap is good, the pommel nut shows no evidence of being disturbed and the attachment that holds the hilt to the pommel is lost as usual. There is some light to moderate scattered pitting and erosion, and there is a faint marking of wolf on blade(Soligen?). Note: There is a period engraved signature on hilt "M:C". Est.: $1,250-$2,500
