Sharps Model 1874 sporting rifle of .40 cal., 32" extra heavy octagon barrel, double set triggers, fancy pistol grip stock with Shutzen butt plate, Venier type tang sight, hooded front sight, forend drilled for palmrest (not included), serial #S155637. This very unusual Sharps shows a L marking beneath the caliber, indicating long cartridge, and it is a straight case. Also, the S in the serial number indicates special order. Thebarrel measures approximately 1-1/8" across the center. The barrel retains 85-95% original blue that is evenly drifting and toning with the wear mostly on the edges. The barrel shows just a few spots andbeginning normal age. The action shows 40-60% case hardening drifting to silver with some rainbow colors around the hammer. The action is good, the bore is bright, the stock is very good showing an old repair to thewrist that is expertly accomplished. The stocks show 80%+ original varnish, some minor scratches, sharp checkering on the pistol grip. The factory letter indicates shipped as a sporting rifle, 30" barrel, .40 cal.,
